The sun slowly peeked up over the mountains. The birds took to chirping, the squirrels took to chattering, the brook took to babbling. This was about as boisterous as things got in this neck of the woods. For this little town, if you want to call it that, was home to many a recluse. Some by choice, others by necessity, but they all preferred to keep to themselves and conversation rarely entailed more than a nod of the head or a wave of the hand.

So it’s not hard to imagine that the residents really didn’t know each other very well at all, and that was just fine by them. Though they were about to not be so fine with it.

There was one person everybody knew, a little bit anyway, the town’s founder, Adobery. He respected their privacy, but he did check on his citizens from time to time. So when Melissa D was out for an early walk down the town’s main (only) road, she recognized the marred body of Adobery lying there. His throat had been slashed wide open, with matching claw marks across his arms, stomach, and legs. She whistled and shouted until she roused the rest of the town into gathering around the founder’s corpse.

“What the heck are you doing?”, Melissa D asked of the fella with his hand shoved down Adobery’s jean pocket.

DarkHorseAsh responded, “Had to see if he was packing. He’s not, or at least not any more, but I did find this.” He showed everyone a folded up piece of paper.

“Well read it,” Chris said impatiently.

“Dear citizens. If you are reading this, great danger is upon us all. I have had suspicions there was evil among us. I first came across a bear slaughtered in the woods. It’s wounds seemed unnatural. There have been times in the night that all the creatures suddenly go quiet. Then, tonight I heard a chorus of howls. I know what wolves sound like, and these were no ordinary howls. There was evil in those howls. I may be a crazy old man, but I fear werewolves are among us.

I am going to stand watch tonight, if only to prove to myself I am crazy.” DarkhorseAsh finished.

“What are we supposed to do?” asked joepunman.

“I think it’s werewolf hunting time,” said Pete.
