o·ver·kill
/ˈōvərˌkil/
2. the amount by which destruction or the capacity for destruction exceeds what is necessary.
Even if the town had had the time and stomach for it, they likely wouldn’t have been able to put this puzzle together. The bloody pieces were strewn across the town square. It was only once everyone had gathered and they noted her absence that they knew who the pieces belonged to.

=== A GUN HAS BEEN FIRED ===
April 14, 2020 at 10:41 am
Matt Novak stepped back a few paces from the circle of townsfolk as they quickly got the day’s voting started. He raised his gun, trained it on his target and fired.
The townsfolk reflexively ducked, and Daneekas Ghost screamed and peed his pants a little (a lot). They turned and saw Matt holding the proverbial smoking gun.
“What the heck, man?” said TDO.
“Yeah, keep the safety on. You could have killed one of us with that!” exclaimed Bret.
“I’ve made a huge mistake,” grumbled Matt under his breath.
Gunshot was a miss. Matt has been placed under house arrest and cannot post for the remainder of the day.

I’m not sure who thought giving Novak a gun was a good idea. I’m also not sure why with nine people left, we need six for a majority. I don’t know why no one ever offered ME a gun . . . I am a crack shot! I don’t understand how I peered over DG’s shoulder in an earlier flavor text. What am I, eight feet tall?
What I AM sure of is, Beau is the ancient wolf.
Also, DG and I are registered at Target . . . we ain’t fancy.
That is all.

That’s 14 words and 2 posts. DG has been mod-killed and his vote stricken from the record.

DG and Matt can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Can we really trust them to lynch me? Save yourselves. Go start a new town and let me be. I’ll promise I won’t eat any of the rest of you.

=== A GUN HAS BEEN FIRED ===
April 14, 2020 at 11:56 am
Annette smiles sinisterly. Her speech merely a ploy to put the werewolf at ease. She reaches beneath her poncho and pulls out her gun, leveling it at Beau’s head.
Beau is yammering on about her husband and Matt, but she has tuned it all out, her focus laser-like. “Hey! Beau. How about you turn around and show me those beautiful teeth of yours”.
Beau obliges and faces her. He then walks right up to her and pushes his head into the muzzle.
“Pull the trigger…if you have the guts,” he says.
“Fuck that shit,” she says, “I can take down a squirrel from 200 yards…one handed…on the run. Give me a challenge you wolfy mofo. Run.”
“Nah, I don’t th…”
“I said run asshole, or I’m just going to shoot you in your left nut. Then it’ll be your right. Then I’ll just start picking body parts at random.” she threatened.
“Fine. Have it your way.” Beau turned around and started walking away.
“Run, damn it,” Annette barked.
Beau looked over his shoulder and gave an evil smile, and took off… astonishingly fast. He was to the tree line before you could say ‘boo’. Annette watched him sprint through the trees, waiting for the shot…
“Annette! Honey! Just shoot him already!” whined Daneekas Ghost.
“Shhhhh,” she said.
Beau was just about out of sight before she finally pulled the trigger.
“Did she get him?” asked DarkHorseAsh.
“I’ll go check,” said TDO.
“Don’t bother boys. He as dead as my marriage.”

April 14, 2020 at 12:00 pm
A poncho?! That’s the last straw.
April 14, 2020 at 12:31 pm
I was so confused by your gun comment. I thought to myself I could have sworn I sent her a gun last night
April 14, 2020 at 12:41 pm
I’ll bet you were. The cat ran off with it.
April 14, 2020 at 12:27 pm
I don’t know that you need to make this game any more difficult for the villagers, Ryan. I made so many logical errors playing this game, I think that the village has just gotten some lucky breaks the last few games. I totally forgot to think about the diseased or cursed players, not to mention that I fixated on Novak as the Journalist, and never considered the possibility that he might be the Medium.
April 14, 2020 at 12:31 pm
well, and charmer just needs to stop charming I think. It seems more likely to hurt than help unless you’re using it for a very specific reason. You think I would have learned last time
April 14, 2020 at 1:07 pm
We did get lucky, but, at the same time, there were moments of bad luck too. Literally the only info I got from my role the whole game was that you were the other Mason. No guns hit their targets until the end. Masons never got to use their fort. Journalist never revealed info. Etc.
I think if the wolves don’t charm on day 1, it’s a totally different game. That alone did the trick.
April 14, 2020 at 12:37 pm
Thanks for everyone who played! Sorry if it got a little lop-sided. I’m sure I’ll tweak roles again to maybe balance it a little more. Hard to tell how much is bad luck and how much is unbalanced. I already have some ideas.
Always feel bad for those who go out quick and don’t get to enjoy their role.
April 14, 2020 at 12:59 pm
My vote for Annette was just a brain fart.
It’s weird. I never know whether it’s better to be super on top of things as a wolf or a little clumsy to make myself seem villagery. Voting for Annette was so dumb you’d think people would see that as villagery, but I guess it depends on the person.
April 14, 2020 at 1:19 pm
Your Annette vote was what tipped the balance away from TDO and todahshy for me.
April 14, 2020 at 1:35 pm
In a typical game where you can maybe talk your way out of it, sure. But in this game there’s very little ability to explain things.
April 14, 2020 at 1:05 pm
My first taciturn game, and I realized pretty quickly that this doesn’t match my preferred style of play at all. It was a different challenge.
April 14, 2020 at 2:58 pm
I did like that I could effectively turn the game off though. I did my post, my list and my vote and then I could close the window if I wanted.
I don’t want to sound like I disliked the game. It was a different pace, but I enjoyed puzzling it out on my own more than collectively.
April 14, 2020 at 3:04 pm
And I only broke the rules at the end when I saw Beau’s post and interpreted that as him conceding.
Plus I had a really good joke already typed out.
April 14, 2020 at 1:05 pm
I completely overlooked the cursed thing. Actually, I pretty much didn’t read a lot of the roles unless/until I was trying to figure out something specific. Part of that is the fact that there’s just so much, and part of that was the timing of when the game started and my schedule/energy level.
I still think it would have been fair game to let me shoot at Beau again from my house arrest. It worked out since Annette is a better shot than I am, but, especially if I missed, it would have been super hilarious for me to shoot again.
April 14, 2020 at 1:21 pm
I did the same with the rules. I would have gotten mod-killed a couple of times if I hadn’t double-checked what was allowed.
April 14, 2020 at 1:32 pm
Yes, totally fair, if you ignore the rules AND pretend the game automatically ended with Beau’s death. 🙂
April 14, 2020 at 1:36 pm
But it did automatically end with Beau’s death, since we all knew he was the ancient and he wasn’t getting another chance to night kill because of that.
April 14, 2020 at 1:40 pm
No. While it did end with Beau’s death, it wasn’t the only possibility. Only Beau and I knew that for sure.
There was no night kill on Night 3. Which meant one of 3 things:
1) Beau was sick from eating a diseased villager
2) Beau’s night kill choice was protected by the bodyguard
3) Beau killed a cursed player, who was converted to wolf.
April 14, 2020 at 2:54 pm
Whether the village knew it or not, it actually was the only possibility. And your knowing that was sufficient.
April 14, 2020 at 3:02 pm
Gah! Yes, to the two of us with the knowledge there was no cursed conversion it was the only possibility. During the game, from the perspective of the villagers asking me to forego rules, or those breaking posting rules, it was not the only possibility until I announced the game was over.
April 14, 2020 at 3:28 pm
I’m not defending my asking you to forego the rules, I’m only defending the foregoing of the rules itself.
April 14, 2020 at 3:31 pm
Ok then.
April 14, 2020 at 1:24 pm
Hey look, I figured out how to log in as myself!
Anyway, I have never liked dying on day 1 but this time it was pretty cool. I knew that the wolves had made some mistakes in it getting pushed onto me and I had actual info to pass along to the medium. This death was pretty cool.
As far as this style of play… like DG, this is not really my preferred way to play. It was different and interesting but thankfully I didn’t have to deal with it for very long. Great job parsing what happened villagers.
April 14, 2020 at 1:37 pm
Yeah, my only concern was that I wasn’t going to get lucky enough to get your info. I knew you’d do me right there.
April 14, 2020 at 2:29 pm
I was totally lost on this one and just following the lead of people who seemed villagery to me and feeding them guns. Not my preferred game but I also have not gotten an interesting role in any of these to help get me invested yet.
April 14, 2020 at 2:36 pm
I think it’s time we did an ACTUAL Werewolf game! Many of us have way more time at home than usual for some reason.
April 14, 2020 at 2:42 pm
I make it a policy never to agree with Melissa, but I agree with Melissa.
April 14, 2020 at 3:13 pm

April 14, 2020 at 6:58 pm
Yes
April 14, 2020 at 3:26 pm
You have never been more correct!!
April 14, 2020 at 4:01 pm
I’m scared to see your participation level when you don’t have way more time than usual 😉
I have a regular game mostly done, but it has some kinks to work out. I could run that soon or I could throw up a vanilla game also. I need at least a day off though of being tied to computer at nightfall. Also, writing is a struggle and the flavor text pressure gets me and usually feels weak. It takes way longer than it should. The administrative side would certainly be less at night, but I imagine the day admin more involved, though I’ve never run a long game.
I’ve toyed with the idea of 2 day long days, where there are blocks during the day where the post is locked, so players who can’t be around as much aren’t trying to catch up on 20 pages of comments, and could contribute/read/catch up late at night when it isn’t deadline time, then voting will conclude the following day. 1 day exceptions being made if everyone has voted/posted and majority is reached. I dunno.
If someone else is really rearing to host one, that can be done as well.
April 14, 2020 at 4:07 pm
I’d be down with playing a vanilla game or a themed game. Seems like as good a time as it’ll ever be.
April 14, 2020 at 4:08 pm
I’m also potentially down with hosting a Turbo game or two sometime this week?
April 14, 2020 at 5:21 pm
I’m also considering re-running Werewolves at Cheers where we had Sam as the lynchpin.
April 14, 2020 at 5:57 pm
That was a great design.

Which you broke
April 14, 2020 at 7:29 pm
Still sorry about that.

I’ve been bingeing Cheers so I would love it.
