It was no surprise Daneekas Ghost was having trouble sleeping tonight. After a five hour rotation of turning off the light, turning on the light to read for awhile, he finally gave up two books into it.
He started a pot of coffee then opened up his closet and retrieved his suit so he could iron it one last time. He grabbed a lint roller that was down to a scant few sheets and eyed his suit for any stragglers but he could fine none. Today was his day, and he was going to marry Annette in this suit.
He headed back towards the kitchen and was just finishing pouring himself a cup when there was a knock on the door. He jerked at the sound and splashed some coffee on his bare foot in the process. “Gahhhh!” Damn, that hurt.
“Are you okay?” the voice on the other side of the door said.
That sounded like Annette. What was she doing here?
“Annette?” he called.
“Yes. It’s me,” the voice replied.
“What are you doing here? We’re not supposed to see each other before we get married.”
“I just had to see you about something and it couldn’t wait. Could I come in?”
“Yeah, hold on a sec.” Daneekas Ghost grabbed a hand towel and wiped off his left foot, which was getting a little red and puffy where the coffee had landed, threw the towel in the sink and walked over to the door.
He opened it and gasped. The moon was bright this night and it reflected off her dress, satiny and white. He just stared for a second or two before saying, “It’s beautiful.”
“Thank you,” she said.
“I know I shouldn’t, but I feel the need to kiss you right now.”
“I wouldn’t mind,” she said.
Daneekas Ghost stepped forward and lifted up the veil. He gasped again.
“What is it?” she asked.
“Nah…no…” is all Daneekas Ghost could say.
“Is there something wrong?” she laughed.
“Wo…wo…wo…” he was having trouble breathing.
“Oh, come now. Deep down you knew all along, didn’t you? You’re a smart man.”
“Wo..wo..wo….”
“Aw. It’s so cute when you’re flustered. I could just eat you up.”
Daneekas Ghost tried desperately to scream, backing away, shaking his head, still gasping for air…
…and snapped awake, flinging his book onto the floor.
“Oh my god. Oh thank god.” he said aloud.
