Taciturnsville: Day 5

It is nearing 3 o’clock in the morning. The Dread Pirate has been a statue, hiding in the shadows outside of spookymilk’s house since dark. He decides spookymilk is safe for the night, and takes a few steps towards the road.

“Hello, Mr. Pirate,” he/she says.

The Dread Pirate sees a glowing pair of eyes staring at him from not ten feet away. He pulls out his trusty Swiss Army knife. He turns his head slightly to the left, not daring to take his eyes off the werewolf, and yells, “Don’t worry spookymilk! Stay inside! I’m not going to let him/her lay a filthy paw on you.”

He takes a defensive stance, knife at the ready. The wolf howls. The Dread Pirates lets out a furious yell of his own.

*********

Another morning has arrived. The villagers all gather in the square fearing the worst. There is another dead body lying face down in the square.

Melissa D takes one look at the body, then does a quick head count. Not liking her odds, she pulls out a can of spray paint, quickly tags the bulletin board with something lewd and hightails it for the forest shouting, “Gotta bounce, bitches!”

The villagers return their attention to the body. spookymilk sticks his shoe underneath and rolls it over.

“Fuckpillows, it’s The Dread Pirate” spookymilk curses, “Nibbish, what the hell man?! Why didn’t you kills Higgs?”

“Hey. I came by your place to talk about it and you were all like ‘Cowin won’t weave me awone. I too scared to come out and pway’,” counters Nibbish.

“Fuck you, Nibbish. I’m over 600 years old. I ain’t afraid of nuthin'” roars spookymilk.

“Guys. Will you two shut the hell up?” says Violabeenice. “I haven’t been able to hunt in days. Can we please get on with this?”

The wolves turn towards the villagers. Codefox reaches for his empty holster. Bhiggum rips open his shirt, proudly displaying his finely crafted bullet-proof vest. ash10101 makes some curious sign with his hands. They are ready(?) for battle. Who will win?

The wolves do. All is perfectly quiet in Taciturnsville once aga….

I voted myself to talk yesterday. I knew Pope was the priest because I confessed to him and he saw me as a villager when no one else did. I was going to go into detail about that, hopefully lead people to look at other votes.

I admit I’ve been so sick this week I didn’t do a good job wolf-hunting. I suspected codefox and nibbish and that’s about it.

I was legit shocked that I wasn’t the lynch on day two. Novak brought up the plan to smoke me out and I had to hide the rest of the day.

Todah had both spooky and I dead to rights, I later found out. If code doesn’t kill him without letting him speak, there’s a good chance that this goes way differently. The guns killed the village. I think there’s a good chance for them if they don’t end up being used.

That was very weird, but I’d be willing to play it again, now that I have the slightest idea what was going on.

If any of the villager’s special powers had worked at all in our favor, we might have killed at least one wolf. Did we accomplish anything that helped us? I know my vests went to novak, Melissa and spooky, so that wasn’t great.

I should just be happy I didn’t have a gun so I didn’t kill any extra villagers.

I was wrong- Pope’s powers did definitely help the village. So we batted about 1 for 30!

    Some of my favorite things:

Nibbs charms Melissa. The delinquent can’t even vote for her targets.

Novak’s plan. I was displeased with myself for not anticipating it (though I prepped for no self-voting). Course it didn’t matter because Melissa was blessed by Jon that day, so the plan wouldn’t have worked.

Novak being cursed. This could have been a huge blow for village, and as I thought, Novak did get the night kill. But Jon saved the day for the village. Novak made himself a standout villager among the rest day 1, so he got all the night actions thrown his way.

Novak being killed by the one he courted.

Melissa being straightforward from day 1, and listing her targets everyday with exclamation points, but nobody else with exclamation points.

I left work for home on Day 3. By the time I get home I have 2 emails. First one is from Todahshy, saying he better use is Special post so he can save codefox. Few minutes later an email from Codefox saying he’s going to shoot Todahshy.

Nearly all the night actions of the villagers winding up in unhelpful places.

Yeah, I wasn’t using exclamation points in my list to denote what I knew, since I didn’t know anything. I was using them to indicate how strongly I felt about someone’s role.

There were a few too many roles and options for me to ever figure out the results of novak’s scheme, though I should’ve stuck with my spooky vote.
I flip-flopped because I didn’t understand why codefox shot todahshy unless codefox was a wolf- and if codefox was a wolf, then spooky wasn’t.

      It was fun!

I knew one of nibbish and Code were a wolf after the day 2 vote fiasco. So I peeked Codefox and was successful in seeing villager.

So I then knew nibbish was a wolf. Then as I thought about it more spookys 4th vote on Pope seemed like an attempt to block the charm power reveal so I figured he was a wolf too.

So frustrating. I was fuming after the gun shot. Way too premature.

Having been the one with the gun before (I don’t think anyone remembers, though), I remember feeling the same way- a 50/50 shot when you’re not sure of much feels like a pretty good bet.

I disagree in this case because we had two seers. Almost as many seers as wolves. Need to trust others to use their powers effectively.

One tweak I would suggest is to always reveal roles of the people who died.

    Reply

    1. todahshy’s avatar

I do think it’s pretty wolf slanted currently. If there was no vote counting messup then I would have had no clue what was going on. So maybe make it obvious at day’s end how the final vote tally changes from the charm. Would add a bit more strategy to the wolves and how to vote in order to hide or use it to their advantage. (Maybe even make it so the charm wolf can change who is charmed the next day each night so it’s not always one person who is screwed)

      Reply

      1. todahshy’s avatar

It would also encourage more voting and vote changes especially late in day which was sorely lacking because in this one there was no incentive to change my vote if I had a hunch on someone because no additional clues would be popping up from people talking during the day.

        Reply

        1. codefox’s avatar

I had a similar thought about the vote charm. Since we didn’t know how it changed on day one it made it harder to try and figure out who changed their vote.

Role reveal — not sure on that one. Does give potential for wolf/villager to claim journalist with nobody disputing.

Disagree that it’s necessarily wolf slanted. The village was very unfortunate this game. I think games could go easily either way depending on order of kills.

If the priest lives more than one night, they start gathering a lot of info. If the medium lives more than they did in this game, they gain a ton of info.

If the courter doesn’t die right away, good chance two villager roles are outed.

The journalists never picked a wolf this game, which had the potential to also learn a villager role at the same time. The priest wasn’t alive long enough to be visited by a wolf.

Both journalists both got killed, probably right before they were about to share very important info.

      The bodyguard never protected anyone.

The mayor wasn’t around to save herself. The priest wasn’t around to move a wasted vote onto someone on the block with him to potentially save himself.

The guns/vests almost all went to wolves/delinquent/night kills.

Wolf Charmer – I think letting the wolf change who they charm each day would be quite advantageous to the wolves. They could hand pick who they thought would vote against them that day. It would be nice for one person to not be screwed. Though, wolf can’t stop them from causing a majority, so if there aren’t two close horses in the race, the influence isn’t total.

Not sure on how much of a minefield having the actual vote count revealed when it doesn’t affect the outcome.

Maybe additional people being able to make short posts would help with the lack of vote changing problem.

Let guns/vests be given during the day, not at night?

Compromise on role reveal, could be to let any role the medium learns of a dead person be revealed on the message board the next morning. Some nights the medium has two dead people to chose from, so not all roles would get revealed.
